Here is our current SWEbinar schedule for 2017.  Please note that we will be adding sessions as needed, so check back frequently to keep advised of all that we have going on!

Presenters:  If you hold one of SWE’s certifications (CSS, CSW, CSE, or CWE) and would like to present a SWEbinar, please contact Jane Nickles – guest presenters are always welcome! Our one requirement regarding subject matter is that your topic be of interest to those people who are studying for one of our certifications – our SWEbinar program is intended to help our candidates with exam preparation.

Login Instructions:  At the appointed time, just click on the link.  lease note that our sessions are offered as live, interactive events and are not recorded. There is no need to register in advance. Links will be attached to the date and time announcement of each session in the list below and will go “live” a few days before the scheduled date.

When the SWE Adobe Connect homepage appears, click on “enter as a guest,” type in your name, and click “enter room.”  Remember that each session is limited to 100 attendees, and that several of our past sessions have reached capacity.  We are hoping to avoid this issue in the future by offering more SWEbinars, but its still a good idea to log on early!

  • If you have never attended an Adobe Connect event before, it is also a good idea to test your connection ahead of time (just click on the link).

  • There is no need for a dial-in number; audio will be available via the speakers on your computer or mobile device.

November 2017:

December 2017:

  • Saturday, December 2 – 10:00 am central time: Certification Summit: North by North Coast: the Wines of Mendocino and Lake County. Please note that unlike our typical SWEbinars, Certification Summits require SWE membership and a reservation. For more information on Certification Summits, click here.

January 2018:

  • Saturday, January 6 – 10:00 am central time:  A Spirited Discussion: The Insider’s Guide to the CSS Exam – presented by Jane A.   • Saturday, January 27, 2018 – 11:00 am central time (yes, 11): Oak Barrels and their Influence on Wine – presented by Lisa Boissier, CWE. Are you a fan of Fumé Blanc? How about an oaky-smoky Chardonnay? And who doesn’t love Barolo? If you are a fan of any of these wines, you’ll be interested to learn about the construction of oak barrels and the aroma and flavor compounds they provide to the wines that reside within. Grab the oaky wine of your choice and join us for a session on barrels!

February 2018:

  • Wednesday, March 14 – 7:00 pm central time: Dishing up Dirt, Sizing up Soil – presented by Jane A. Nickles, CSE, CWE: When we talk about wine, we talk about soil. But do we really know what soil is—what it is composed of, how we define a soil type, and how the soil affects the vine? Join us for a one-hour session on soil—we’ll discuss parent materials, particle sizes, how we define and classify soils, and how the soil impacts the vines and the grapes.

Nickles, CSE, CWE: Wine students will recognize the Tannat grape variety as the main grape of the Madiran AOC and as the super-star grape of Uruguay…but there’s more to story of Tannat! Join us for this one-hour webinar discussing the history, wines, and future of the Tannat grape.
  • Saturday, May 26 – 10:00 am central time: Let’s talk Tannat—a Taste-along webinar presented by Jane A. Nickles, CSE, CWE: Wine students will recognize the Tannat grape variety as the main grape of the Madiran AOC and as the super-star grape of Uruguay…but there’s more to story of Tannat! Nickles, CSE, CWE: Boasting a long wine-making tradition dating back to Roman times, the Pflaz is known for its market importance (every third bottle of wine bought in Germany is from the Pfalz), size (the second largest Anbaugebiet in Germany in terms of acreage), and a uniquely sunny climate. Join us for this one-hour session as we discuss the grapes, wines, and places of the Pflaz!

Technically, it is known as Bonarda Piemontese. There is also a great deal of Bonarda grown in Argentina—but it is an entirely different grape, known in France as Douce Noire (which is known in California as Charbono). If all this sounds confusing….it should. Join us for a one-hour webinar to sort it all out!

Join us for this one hour session as we travel to Coonawarra, Mount Benson, Mount Gambier, and the other wine regions of Australia’s Limestone Coast!

    GM, I am confused. I purchased the year extension under study guide 2015. I am not sure which test I will be taking FY 15 or 16. I don’t have the study guide 2016, I have study guide 15 is this a disconnect for me. Why do you recommend. Thanks
